Recruited by Attorney General Josh Shapiro to start the nation’s first “mini CFPB,” Nicholas Smyth manages investigations and litigation of 12 to 15 attorneys involving student lending, mortgages, auto finance, payday lending, debt collection, credit reporting, debt settlement, scams, and price gouging. Working closely with other states and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Smyth's team has obtained $190 million in redress for Pennsylvania consumers. Public cases include Navient (M.D. Pa), Wells Fargo, Equifax, Think Finance (E.D. Pa), CashPoint (Phila. Ct. Com. Pl.), and a mortgage redlining investigation in Philadelphia. Prior to joining the OAG, he spent four years as an Enforcement Attorney at the CFPB. He was also Senior Counsel at an auto leasing company and a Senior Associate at Reed Smith.
